Overview – Portiuncula Nursing Home
Established in 2004, Portiuncula Nursing Home is a luxurious nursing home with 60 beds, situated beside the Franciscan Church and Abbey of Multyfarnham. The inspiration for the name (Portiuncula) is the place in Italy where the Franciscan movement started.
The nursing home is purpose-built with the residents in mind. There is an outside view from all corridors with a great feeling of space and light. Rooms are tastefully decorated, bright and airy, and most of all, comfortable and inviting. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with their own belongings and choice of colours.
There is a secure courtyard for walks and outdoor events including garden parties and pet farm visits. This is also where you will find our very our hens. There are a number of day rooms and quiet spaces including our own bar for a get together and a bit of craic.
Multyfarnham is a small, well-kept village, two miles off the N4 Dublin to Sligo Road. The grounds around the nursing home stand on the banks of the river Gaine and are beautifully planted and very picturesque. The tree-lined avenue and grazing horses provide a peaceful atmosphere and lovely nature walks.
We do our best to provide a home from home for all our residents. We believe in a person-centred approach with a high standard of care. We encourage residents to be actively involved in their own care planning and activities programme and we respect the residents’ rights to self-determination, individuality, privacy and dignity. From the moment you walk in the door, you will be greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile.
